This month we are looking at Famous Inventors that have discovered something interesting. We will be looking at a range of Inventors from The Wright Brothers to James Watt.

Watch out to see some interesting activities we will be doing!

THE WRIGHT BROTHERS

(INVENTED THE FIRST MOVING AEROPLANE)

06/11/17

Today to start November Inventor Month we studied The Wright Brothers!

We wrote about our first experience in a plane, what we think they will look like in 20 years and followed a tricky flight path maze! ✈️

 The Wright Brothers!

Today we made our own 3D spit fire planes, learnt how to draw a plane and learnt some information about The Wright Brothers by playing a fun true or false game! ✈️

The Wright Brothers- at breakfast club we designed and flew our own planes! We changed the way we made them each time To make them fly faster just like the Wright Brothers did! ✈️

JAMES WATT

(INVENTED THE FIRST STEAM ENGINE)

07/11/17

The inventor of the day today was James Watt! He created the first steam engine! We played 4 corners with famous trains!

Have a guess what all the trains are….

Thomas The Tank Engine
Hog warts Express
Titanic and
Flying Scotsman!

The inventor of the day is James Watt who created the first Steam Engine. At breakfast club we made our own 3D trains and copied the steam train! We also read a lovely book which taught us about being kind and about trains!

The inventor of the day is James Watt who created the first steam engine! We played a fun fact finding quiz and learnt a lot about him!

Did you know his face appeared on the £50 note in 2011?

ALEXANDER GRAHAM BELL

(INVENTOR OF THE TELEPHONE)

💡We are exploring Thomas Edison today. Here are some things we got up to at breakfast club. 💡

ALEXANDER FLEMING

(INVENTOR OF PENICILLIN)

27/11/17

Today we learnt all about Alexander Fleming and how he discovered penicillin. Although we couldn’t recreate Alexanders experiments we did our own with some things you can find in your home. 📊⚖️🔎

RAIN CLOUD IN A JAR 💦

What you will need:
1 large jar
Shaving foam (not gel)
Water
Food colouring

1. Fill up jar with water. About 1 inch from top

2. Spray shaving foam onto the top of the jar to form the cloud

3. Using a syringe or pipette, squeeze the food colouring into the shaving foam

4. Keep squeezing on the food colouring until the cloud (shaving foam) becomes full.

The food colouring will slowly fall into the water creating the rain.

DIY lava lamp 💡

What you will need:
1 large sized jar
Water
Food colouring
Vegetable pop or baby oil
Anti acid table like Alka-Seltzer
Torch

1. Fill the jar with a couple of inches of water

2. Mix food colouring with the water to give it colour

3. Slowly fill the rest of the jar with the oil

Let the oil and water separate before the next step

4. Break up the Alka-Seltzer tablet into a few pieces

5. Drop the tablet into the jar and watch it slowly dissolve

This will bring the oil to the top of the jar through the water.

6. Shine a torch through the bottom of the jar to see the bubbles clearer

Wizards brew 🔮

What you will need:
1 medium sized jar
White vinegar
Bicarbonate of soda
Food colouring (4 different colours)
Spoon
Tray
Cups x3
Glitter (optional)

1. Place the jar in the tray (to protect table top)

2. Fill the jar a couple on cm from the top with white vinegar and mix with 1 colour of food colouring and glitter

3. In three separate cups fill with around 3cm of vinegar and mix with a few drops of food colourings you have left (each cup should be a different colour)
keep these to the side to add later

4. In the main jar, add a heaped spoonful of the bicarbonate of soda and mix well.

The wizards brew should now be bubbling over the rim on the jar.

5. Slowly add the different coloured vinegar one by one. Mixing each time.

6. More bicarbonate of soda can be added at this point to keep the bubbling going.

As you add the different coloured vinegar mix the brew will bubble up and change colour in front of your eyes.

You can do this for as many colours as you choose and keep the experiment going as long as you wish
